Our Process

Design Services

Sanctum Design Group offers a number of design and installation services for every project. Specifically, there are three critical phases of our design and implementation process to ensure a successful project.

Concept Design

During the first phase of our design process we explore a property’s potential – both its opportunities and limitations.

This preliminary design provides the initial design concept to help our clients visualize their landscape plan, set project objectives and establish a baseline for an objectives discussion.  Sanctum can also produce a preliminary estimate of probable cost for the concept to ensure the financial objectives of the project are achieved.

These services are provided on an hourly basis generally with a “not to exceed” clause.

Design Development
(or Working Drawings)

Depending on the scope of your project, the second phase of our design planning involves the production of enhanced design details, along with detailed working drawings. During this phase of planning we address the enhanced design details and materials selection.  These drawings are full-scale landscape installation plans and details needed to communicate effectively with tradesmen. They generally include a materials plan, layout plan, construction details and elevations, grading and drainage plan, planting and irrigation design, and lighting depending on the complexity of the project.

These working drawings make it easier to obtain bids on various products and elements throughout the installation process. These drawings express the intention and direction of the design process and speak for Sanctum’s designers, even when not on site.

Clients can expect to spend an average of six to eight percent of the entire project budget on these detailed drawings and process, which is billed separately from the initial concept design. In our experience these funds spent represent high value through betterbidding and accurately expressed design.

Construction Administration
and Project Management

The final phase of Sanctum’s design process is construction administration/observation or project management.

We offer varying levels of support in this area based on the level of involvement clients want to have in their project. Sanctum can provide oversight at critical junctions in the process or we can provide supervised day-to-day management of contractors to ensure compliance of the design.

Administration and Management programs can be billed on either an hourly or set-fee basis. We are happy to discuss the benefits of these options with you.
