Let’s be real, getting a roof for your head is a lot more complicated than it seems. If no one’s spilled the beans yet, maintaining a house is just as troublesome and costly as getting one, if not more. We all want our house to stand out from the rest. But as it turns out- capitalism exists and you have to pay a lot of zeros to make that happen. So the next and last resort is DIYing it into existence.

How to DIY it?

Know what you want

The first step to DIYing anything in your house is knowing what you want first. Research across the web, and pinpoint things you like. Find something that hits close to home (pun probably intended) and settle on an aesthetic. Once you can picture it in your head, research some more and list down the materials and tools you will need.

Play with colors and furniture

Once you’ve settled on an aesthetic and have an idea of what you want, it gets easier to engineer it. The easiest way to DIY keeping your color palette of choice in mind is by playing with colors and furniture. You can paint, or even use fabric to give your furniture that pop of color your living space needs. However, it doesn’t have to be bright or bold enough to be noticeable from the other end of the room. You can do patterns on something as small as a lampshade, or drawer knobs.

Budget it

The core purpose and reason behind DIYing something is to make sure it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to do it. Fix a maximum expenditure figure and keep it in mind when buying your material. However, do not compromise on the quality. If this is your first time doing a DIY, try mock-DYing it with makeshift materials first. Not only will that help you figure out how to do it, but it will also make sure you don’t waste any materials doing the real thing.
